CAROL HANSEN
Artist and Gallery Owner
Carol Hansen was the kid in the class who could draw. Yet after graduating high school she fled the South African suburbs for the towers and discothèques of Johannesburg. Computers in 1973 had begun to infiltrate humanity, and Carol found herself being trained as a computer programmer.
Her German and Dutch heritage nudged her to travel after a few years of office life. She met a Nova Scotian on a kibbutz in Israel, and travelled with him back to Africa, and later Canada. Arriving in Nova Scotia in 1976, Carol worked in a lobster plant, while attending NSCAD University where she graduated with a Fine Arts Degree.
After graduating, Carol moved with her young family to Chester solo exhibitions followed at Houston North Gallery in Lunenburg, Valverde Gallery in Mahone Bay, and Amicus Gallery in Chester. During the second year of Covid she founded the Captains House Gallery with Shelli Baines. Carol’s art journey continues from printmaking, to soft pastels and currently, acrylic paint. She enjoys the challenge of commissions as well.
